  1. Installation of miro drivers for Windows95:
  2.  
  3. Attention: Please don't try to install the miro drivers by running the
  4.            install.exe program. Use the 'change display properties' from
  5.            your control panel. Further informations below.
  6.  
  7. This miro Windows 95 drivers are useable for the following miro graphic 
  8. adapters only:
  9.  
  10.      miroCRYSTAL 8S       
  11.      miroCRYSTAL 10SD 
  12.      miroCRYSTAL 16S
  13.      miroCRYSTAL 16Si
  14.      miroCRYSTAL 24S
  15.      miroCRYSTAL 32S
  16.      miroMAGIC S4/RAINBOW Win
  17.  
  18. Generally dual screen solutions (Twinface) in combination with a
  19. miroCRYSTAL 8S, a miroCRYSTAL 16Si or other combinations
  20. won't be supported !!!

  23. To install the miro drivers, proceed as follows:
  24.  
  25. * If you have not done so already, start your computer and Windows95
  26. * Open the Control Panel
  27. * Click on Display
  28. * Click the Settings folder
  29. * Select Change Display Type... .The Change Display Type windows appears.
  30.   Here you can change the graphics board and the monitor type.
  31. * To select another graphics board, click on the "Change" button.
  32. * Click "Have Disk..." To specify the disk drive from which you install 
  33.   the drivers: default is drive a:\.
  34.   Now there will be displayed the following model either
  35.   "miro S3 OCTO Graphicadapter/PCI", or 
  36.   "miro S3 OCTO Graphicadapter/(VLB,ISA,EISA)".
  37.   In case both options will be displayed, please select the model which 
  38.   is corresponding to your miro graphics adapter and click "apply". 
  39.   The computer is restarted. After the restart the new resolutions are 
  40.   available.

  45. In case of problems please watch the following hints:
  46.  
  47. 1.) Don't try to use former miro Windows 3.xx drivers for Windows 95.
  48.     In case you tried to use these drivers make sure that all former 
  49.     miro Windows 3.xx drivers and entries in your SYSTEM.INI file are removed. 
  50.  
  51.     In the SYSTEM.INI you have to remove the complete entries in the section
  52.     [928.drv], [Twin.right] and [Twin.left]. Delete in your Win95 the follo-
  53.     wing files if available:

  107.     Delete the miroWINTOOL group and the includes icons 
  108.     on your Windows95 desktop too !!!
  109.  
  110. 2.) In case you are using a miro monitor or a common model please install
  111.     a new monitor file. This monitor.inf file is on this installation disk. 
  112.     Make sure that there is no older OEM*.INF monitor file in your Win95\INF
  113.     subdirectory. This subdirectory is hidden, but you  can make it visible
  114.     by entering the DIR /a command. All INF files are ASCII files and you
  115.     can read these files with every editor, so please make sure that you
  116.     don't delete needed INF files. Look into the file before you delete it !!!
  117.     If you are using the miro monitor files of the original Windows 95 CD,
  118.     please use the miro monitor file of this disk.
  119.  
  120. 3.) Everytime you install new display drivers in Windows 95 a new OEM*.INF 
  121.     file will be copied into your WIN95\INF subdirectory. Windows 95 doesn't 
  122.     remove the old *.inf files. Make sure that only the specified OEM*.INF file
  123.     is available. This could prevent many problems!
  124.  
  125. 4.) In case Windows 95 doesn't start VLB computers, you can change the base-
  126.     address for the linear memory adressing. This decimal value should be 
  127.     dividable by 1048576(1024KB)
  128.

  136. 5.) Some of the older miro graphic PCI boards are not compatible to the new PCI 
  137.     standard rev. 2.0. Therefore you might get problems during the startup of 
  138.     your system. This is especially true for some later chipsets (e.g.
  139.     Intel Triton). These chipsets and the according Plug and Play BIOS
  140.     don't support older boards conforming to PCI rev. 1.x.
  141.  
  142. 6)  At the time the miro OCTO S3 Graphicadapters were developed,
  143.     the VESA standard V.1.0 was actual. So these graphicadapters
  144.     are compatible only to this older version of this standard.
  145.     Newer VESA standards and included video modes won't be supported !!!

  148.
